Agartala: Mar 18: Senior lawyer Purushottam Roy Burman, a prominent figure in the political landscape, has thrown his weight behind the CPM candidate Ratan Das in the upcoming Ramanagar by-election. Burman, who had fervently supported the Left-backed independent candidate during the 2023 assembly elections, is now aligning with the CPM to secure victory.

In a significant move, Burman has also pledged his support to the ‘Indi Jote’ coalition for the Lok Sabha elections. Speaking on the matter, he emphasized the critical nature of the upcoming polls, labeling them a “test of fire” for India. His unwavering stance is clear: the BJP must be defeated at any cost.

Burman’s conviction stems from his belief that failure to unseat the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections would have dire consequences for the nation. He remains optimistic, asserting that the BJP’s defeat is achievable in this electoral battle.

Notably, during the 2023 assembly elections, Burman himself faced defeat at the hands of BJP candidate Surajit Dutta, losing by a narrow margin of 897 votes. Dutta secured 17,455 votes, while Burman garnered 16,558 votes. Other candidates, including Trinamool Congress’s Pujan Biswas and independent candidate Dulal Ghosh, also contested the race, with NOTA receiving 685 votes.

As the Ramanagar by-election approaches, all eyes are on the unfolding political dynamics, and Burman’s endorsement adds further intrigue to the contest. The stakes are high, and voters eagerly await the outcome that will shape the region’s representation in the days to come. Stay tuned for updates as the electoral drama unfolds.

Burman’s strategic shift and his commitment to the ‘Indi Jote’ alliance underscore the intensity of the electoral battle. The Ramanagar by-election becomes a pivotal moment, with implications reaching beyond the constituency. As voters prepare to cast their ballots, the clash between political ideologies takes center stage, and the fate of Ramanagar hangs in the balance.
