Agartala: Tripura is set to join the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from August 9, with a series of rallies, cultural programmes and patriotic activities planned across the state as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
Addressing a press conference, Chief Minister’s Secretary and Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Secretary Kiran Gitte said the fifth edition of Har Ghar Tiranga in Tripura will be observed from August 9 to 17, 2026. This year’s programmes will also commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram.
The Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, launched nationally in 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, encourages citizens to hoist the National Flag at their homes and aims to deepen people’s connection with the Tricolour while honouring freedom fighters and fostering patriotism.
Gitte said a wide range of activities has been planned across districts, blocks and panchayats. These include Tiranga processions, exhibitions and concerts, bike and cycle rallies, tricolour illumination and decorations, rangoli programmes, a “Tiranga Salute to the Spirit of Vande Mataram” and the popular “Selfie with Tiranga” initiative.
The National Flag will also be hoisted at households and government offices during the campaign period.
According to Gitte, adequate procurement of National Flags over the past few years has helped the state achieve near-saturation in availability. To meet additional demand this year, district administrations are getting flags prepared through Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
The government has revised flag rates to encourage SHG participation and appealed to citizens to purchase National Flags from SHG stalls being set up at different locations across the districts.
At the state level, a major Har Ghar Tiranga Rally will begin from Ujjayanta Palace at 4.30 pm on August 11. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will flag off the procession.
After passing through prominent locations in Agartala, the rally will culminate at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, where a Tiranga Exhibition and Tiranga Concert will be organised.
Similar programmes will be held in all districts, with special emphasis on participation by students, youth, clubs and NGOs.
Gitte said the state government is taking all necessary measures to ensure the campaign’s success. ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee was also present at the press conference.
