Agartala: Apr 03: The Group of Twenty (G20) comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom, and United States) and European Union came to the state to attend G20 project in Tripura. The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues.
India holds the Presidency of the G20 from 1StDecember 2022 to 30 November 2023. The G20 Presidency is responsible for bringing together the G20 agenda in consultation with other members and in response to developments in the global economy.
Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Mr. Ajay Sood in his introductory address flagged that the world is faced with unprecedented issues which require immediate action to save the future. He said that these issues cannot be postponed ant further. He said that three sub themes will be discussed in the conference, the one about the green hydrogen that has been catching the attention of countries the world over. He said, how ocean based technologies can help mankind to harness the vast amount of energy through tidal currents and new generation energy storage tells that we need to tjhink beyond lithium electro- chemistry.
Leading the Summit, India will have around 200 meetings and Seminars across 56 venues pan India. In these meetings, delegates from around 29 countries and 15 International Organizations would participate.
As a part of G20 Presidency, a Science-20 Event, as a side event of the G-20 meetings will be held at Agartala on 3 & 4th April, 2023. The Inception Meeting of Science-20 (S20), the science engagement vertical of G20, was held at Puducherry from 30-31 January 2023. The participants will present consensus-based science-driven recommendations to policy makers. Within this broad theme, the deliberations on the theme – Clean Energy for a Greener Futures being held at Agartala.
About 75 delegates from different G-20 nations, International Organizations, NITI Ayog, Govt. of India etc. is participating in the event including special invitees from various organizations of India.
The Proposed participating countries are – Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Mauritius, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain.
Important participating institutes are Indian National Science Academy, Indian Institute of Science (IISC), National Chemical Laboratory, National Institute of Ocean Technology, Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research, IT Delhi, IIT Ropar, TERI – The Energy and Resources Institute, International Monetary Fund, Asian Development Bank etc.
Besides, the following new works has been taken up- Installation of musical fountain at KumariTilla Lake, beautification of Oxygen Park, installation of ramp at Rajghat-Neermahal, beautification of Neermahal, Light and sound show at Neermahal, Beautification of Ujjanta Palace. An exhibition will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Tripura on 3rd April, 2023 on the side-lines of the summit at the Indoor Exhibition Hall at Hapania showcasing the States culture, tourism etc.
