Duo murder case: Two detained, police fired tear gas to control the situation

Agartala, November 21: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the recovery of dead bodies of mother and daughter from Dambur reservoir. They are being interrogated at Birganja police station. But, today the police station surrounded by the locals demanding to hand over those two people to the people. Not only that, they also tried to vandalize the police station. As a result, the police fired tear gas to bring the situation under control. In that, several women were injured. However, Amarpur SDPO Debanjali Roy refuted the allegation saying that tear gas was fired only to incite the agitated crowd. No lathicharge was done.

Incidentally, on October 22, mother and daughter went missing from Tin Garia area of Birganja subdivision in Gomati district. In that incident, the woman’s husband Jugal Kishore Jamatia filed a missing diary at the Ompi police station. Rupaswari Jamatia’s decomposed body was recovered from Dambur reservoir on October 31 in a bag. Just two days after that, on November 2, the dead body of his 12-year-old daughter was recovered from the Dambur reservoir. The couple told the police that local people saw his wife and daughter riding a bike with a man passing through Paharpur area of Amarpur’s new market.

The police investigated the incident and managed to recover the bike numbered TR03L8885 from Paharpur area on New Bazar Street. Finally, in the raid last night, two people were arrested early this morning and the police interrogated them at Birganja police station. Meanwhile, on receiving the news, the local people gathered in front of the police station and demanded that the criminals be handed over to them for severe punishment. It is not possible to accept that demand; the police explained to them many times and requested them to go back. But, instead of going back to the police, they surrounded the police station and started protesting. They alleged that the police had lathi-charged and fired tear gas at everyone. In that, several people were injured.

In this regard, Amarpur SDPO Debanjali Roy said that the police have arrested two people in connection with the recovery of the dead bodies of mother and daughter from Dambur reservoir. They are being interrogated at Birganja police station. Meanwhile, 70 to 80 local people gathered in front of the police station and became agitated demanding that the two men be handed over to them. They did not stop at just surrounding the police station. They tried to vandalize the police station. Hence, the police fired 6-7 rounds of tear gas to bring the situation under control. He claimed that the allegation of lathi charge is completely false. No one was injured in the firing of tear gas. Now the situation is normal, he said.
