Agartala: July 27: The CPI(M) West Tripura District Committee held a protest on Saturday against the recently presented central budget. The protest march, which began in front of Bhanu Ghosh Smriti Bhavan, saw participation from CPI(M) workers and supporters. Key figures at the rally included Opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury, CPI(M) West District Committee Secretary Ratan Das, former minister Manik De, and former MP Shankar Prasad Dutt.
Ratan Das criticized the central budget, claiming it favors the country’s corporates and will lead to increased unemployment, higher prices of goods, and further impoverishment of the poor. He argued that the budget lacks provisions for the common people and primarily aims to boost the profits of the wealthy.
Opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury also condemned the budget, stating that the BJP-led government has not learned from the Lok Sabha election results and continues to prioritize the interests of a select few. He highlighted the unfulfilled promise of implementing the Swaminathan Commission for farmers and criticized the reduction in budget allocation for workers’ wages.
Chowdhury further pointed out the shortage of staff in the railway ministry as a contributing factor to train accidents and criticized the discontinuation of a separate railway budget. The rally saw a significant turnout of workers and supporters, reflecting widespread discontent with the central budget.
