Agartala, August 26: Opposition Leader and CPI(M) Tripura State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury has accused the ruling BJP of repeatedly targeting CPI(M) offices and workers across the state, warning that those responsible for such incidents would be held accountable.

Chaudhury made the remarks during a visit to the CPI(M) office at Jogendranagar, which was recently vandalised. He met local party leaders and workers and sought details about the incident.

Addressing party members, Chaudhury said the CPI(M) was identifying those allegedly involved in attacks on its offices and workers and asserted that those responsible would eventually face consequences.

The Opposition Leader accused the ruling party of systematically targeting political opponents and described the alleged attacks as a serious threat to democratic values in Tripura. He said incidents of vandalism and violence against political workers raise questions about the functioning of democratic institutions and the space available for political dissent in the state.

Chaudhury said the CPI(M) would continue to raise the issue through political and democratic means and would intensify its protests against what the party describes as attempts to intimidate opposition workers.

During his visit to Jogendranagar, he interacted with local party members and collected information about the circumstances surrounding the alleged vandalism. Party leaders briefed him on the incident and other concerns involving local workers.

The CPI(M) has claimed that the Jogendranagar incident is part of a wider pattern of alleged attacks on opposition party offices and workers in different parts of Tripura. The party maintains that such incidents are aimed at weakening opposition activities and discouraging workers from engaging in political programmes.

Chaudhury said the CPI(M) would document incidents of alleged political violence and take them up through appropriate democratic and legal channels. He also called upon party workers to remain organised and continue their political activities despite what he described as an atmosphere of intimidation.

Party sources said the CPI(M) is planning to intensify its political campaign against alleged attacks on opposition workers and offices. The party is also expected to mobilise public opinion around the issue and highlight it during upcoming political programmes.

The latest allegations come at a time when political activity in Tripura is gaining momentum ahead of the TTAADC Village Committee elections and other forthcoming electoral exercises.

The CPI(M) has vowed to continue its campaign against alleged political violence, while urging the authorities to ensure the safety of political workers and protect democratic space for all parties in the state.
