Dharmanagar, April 2: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday organised a major election rally at Dinanath Vidyamandir ground in Dharmanagar ahead of the by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency, launching a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

The rally witnessed a significant turnout of party leaders, workers, and supporters, reflecting strong organisational mobilisation in the run-up to the polls. Senior leaders used the platform to highlight key issues and mobilise support for the party’s candidate.

The gathering was addressed by Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury, party candidate Amitava Dutta, MLAs Islam Uddin and Shailendra Chandra Nath, along with Central Committee member Krishna Rakshit and several other senior functionaries.

Addressing the rally, speakers launched a scathing critique of the BJP government’s performance over the past eight years, alleging that it has failed to deliver on its promises of development and good governance. They accused the ruling party of corruption, nepotism, and what they described as a “politics of destruction.”

Leaders also raised concerns over key public issues, including rising unemployment, inflation, and what they termed a deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Emphasising citizen security and livelihood concerns, they called on people to unite against the policies of the ruling dispensation.

From the stage, CPI(M) leaders appealed to voters to ensure a decisive victory for Amitava Dutta in the upcoming by-election, describing it as crucial for safeguarding democratic rights and restoring accountability in governance.

They further stressed that the by-election is not just a local contest but a significant political battle that would reflect the public’s sentiment against the ruling party. The presence of veteran party workers and long-time supporters at the rally underscored the party’s grassroots strength and preparedness.

With the campaign gaining momentum, the CPI(M) appears determined to mount a strong challenge in Dharmanagar, setting the stage for a closely watched electoral contest.
