Agartala: August 18: In a recent press conference, BJP leader Pratima Bhowmik expressed her concerns over the safety of women in West Bengal following the tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College Hospital. On August 8, a young doctor was reportedly gang-raped and murdered, an event that has sparked widespread outrage.
Bhowmik criticized the current state government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, for what she described as a failure to protect citizens and address such incidents effectively. She highlighted that similar incidents have occurred in the past, both under the previous CPIM rule and the current administration. Bhowmik accused the government of attempting to cover up the incident, but noted that the organized protest by hospital doctors brought the issue to light.
She also mentioned having the autopsy report and condemned the recurring nature of such violent acts in the state. Bhowmik alleged that instead of taking decisive action, the government has been ineffective, with Mamata Banerjee holding multiple key positions including Chief Minister, Home Minister, and Health Minister. She claimed that the state is being run by “Trinamool goons” and that there is a lack of democracy.
Bhowmik called for the resignation of Mamata Banerjee, arguing that as long as she remains in power, the safety of the people cannot be assured. She also referred to the recent attack on BJP functionary Ashish Pal, who was allegedly assaulted by CPM members and later succumbed to his injuries. Bhowmik vowed to seek justice for the victims and ensure that the perpetrators are punished.
