Agartala: The Tripura BJP leadership on Thursday attended a high-level organisational review meeting at the BJP national headquarters in New Delhi, where senior party leaders discussed the state unit’s performance, organisational issues and future political strategy ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.

The meeting was led by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh and attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, newly appointed state BJP president Abhishek Debroy, former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Ministers Ratan Lal Nath and Tinku Roy, along with senior party leaders and core committee members. BJP Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra and Tripura BJP in-charge Dr. Rajdeep Roy were also present.

Later, the delegation participated in another meeting chaired by BJP National President Nitin Nabin.

According to party sources, the discussions focused on strengthening the party organisation, reviewing recent electoral performances, particularly the TTAADC elections, and addressing internal organisational challenges. The national leadership is understood to have advised the state unit on measures to improve coordination and expand its political outreach.

Sources said the meeting also featured discussions on the BJP’s alliance with Tipra Motha, which came under strain after both parties contested the recent TTAADC elections separately. While Tipra Motha significantly improved its tally, the BJP secured four seats but registered an increase in vote share.

With the 2028 Assembly elections approaching, both parties are reportedly exploring the possibility of renewing their alliance. However, Tipra Motha has maintained that meaningful progress on the implementation of the tripartite agreement (Tipra Accord) remains a key condition for closer political cooperation.

Meanwhile, a separate meeting between Tipra Motha leaders and the Union Home Ministry is likely to be held in Delhi on August 8 or 9. Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, MLA Ranjit Debbarma and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma are expected to attend. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is also likely to participate as the representative of the Tripura government.

According to sources, the proposed meeting will primarily focus on reviewing the implementation of the tripartite agreement signed between the Centre, the Tripura government and Tipra Motha. Party leaders have repeatedly expressed concern over the lack of visible progress on the accord, which formed the basis of Tipra Motha’s decision to join the BJP-led coalition government.

Political observers believe both BJP and Tipra Motha are keen to resolve outstanding issues and rebuild coordination as they prepare for the 2028 Assembly elections, making the upcoming talks crucial for the future of the alliance.
