Agartala: Jan 21: In a well-coordinated operation, Assam Rifles successfully intercepted a major narcotics smuggling attempt in the General Area of Salbagan, West Tripura, on January 20, 2025. The operation led to the recovery of 60,000 yaba tablets, a highly addictive drug, with an estimated market value of Rs 12 crore internationally. This significant seizure highlights the persistent efforts of Assam Rifles in tackling drug trafficking in the region, which has been a growing concern.
Two individuals, Kanai Das (36) and Kishan Kumar Sarkar (32), both residents of West Tripura, were apprehended during the operation. Kanai Das hails from Bamutia village, while Kishan Kumar Sarkar is from Rangutia village. They were caught in connection with the illegal narcotics trade and are now in custody for further investigation.
Following the arrest, both individuals, along with the seized contraband, have been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for a thorough probe and legal proceedings. This operation demonstrates the Assam Rifles’ commitment to combating the smuggling of illicit drugs, which poses a severe threat to the safety and well-being of the region.
