Agartala, May 21: In a significant success in the ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking, Assam Rifles and the Customs Department conducted a joint anti-drug operation in Tripura and seized Morphine valued at approximately Rs 18 lakh. One individual was also apprehended during the operation.

A press release issued in connection with the operation stated that the joint team successfully recovered around 180 grams of Morphine during the search. The seized narcotic substance is estimated to have a market value of nearly Rs 18 lakh.

During the course of the operation, one person identified as Arun Kumar Chakma was taken into custody in connection with the seizure. Officials suspect possible involvement in narcotics-related activities, although further details are expected to emerge after investigation.

After the recovery, the seized contraband and the apprehended individual were handed over to the Customs Department for further legal procedures and detailed investigation. Authorities are now expected to examine possible links related to the source and intended destination of the recovered narcotics.

Security agencies continue to intensify surveillance and anti-drug operations in the northeastern region, which has remained a focus area in efforts to curb trafficking of illegal substances. Officials stated that coordinated operations among various agencies have been yielding positive results in recent months.

Assam Rifles, along with law enforcement and intelligence agencies, has been actively conducting anti-narcotics drives across different parts of the region. Such initiatives form part of broader efforts to dismantle drug networks and prevent the spread of narcotics trafficking.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to continue strict action against those involved in illegal drug activities and stressed that operations would be intensified further to strengthen the campaign against narcotics in the region.
