Agartala, July 10: Tripura achieved another milestone in agricultural exports on Friday as Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath flagged off a fresh consignment of organic produce destined for Dubai, marking the state’s entry into the marketing network of Lulu Retail, one of the Gulf region’s largest retail chains.

The export consignment comprises 1,300 organic scented lemons, 182 kilograms of Kalikhasa aromatic rice, and 350 Queen pineapples, sourced from Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) in Khowai, South Tripura and Gomati districts.

Flagging off the shipment, Nath described the export as a testament to the hard work and commitment of Tripura’s farmers.

“This is a shining example of the dedication and high-quality production of our farmers. Their efforts are now finding recognition in international markets,” the Minister said.

He noted that Lulu Retail operates an extensive retail network across the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and sources food products from more than 85 countries, offering Tripura’s organic produce access to a vast international consumer base.

The Minister said the latest export builds on Tripura’s growing presence in global markets. Earlier, the state successfully exported 10,000 kilograms of organic dried bird’s eye chilli to Germany, demonstrating increasing international demand for its certified organic products.

Nath said the State Government is actively promoting organic farming, quality certification, branding and market linkages to enable farmers to secure better prices and enhance their incomes. He added that expanding overseas markets remains a key component of the government’s strategy to strengthen the agricultural economy.

Highlighting Tripura’s improving investment climate, the Minister referred to the recently concluded Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, where several investment agreements were signed across multiple sectors.

According to Nath, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 23,539 crore, while the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) secured MoUs valued at Rs 13,080 crore. The agriculture and horticulture sectors also attracted investment commitments worth Rs 1,698.4 crore, with additional proposals expected in the coming months.

Officials said the Dubai shipment represents more than a routine export. It reflects Tripura’s emergence as a promising hub for organic agriculture and agri-business, strengthening the state’s reputation in international markets while creating new opportunities for farmers to participate in the global value chain.
