The historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur witnessed the reopening of its 17 donation boxes and chests on Friday after a gap of one month and 20 days, with offerings counted under strict administrative supervision.

The counting process began in the morning inside the temple premises and continued throughout the day. An 18-member special team constituted by the Gomati District Magistrate’s office oversaw the exercise, while enhanced security arrangements were put in place to ensure transparency and maintain order.

Deputy Collector Chandrashekhar Chattopadhyay said the donation boxes contained Indian currency as well as foreign notes and coins from several countries. These included the United States, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bangladesh.

Officials said the presence of foreign currency reflects the temple’s growing appeal among international visitors and pilgrims, alongside its established popularity among devotees from across the country.

The temple’s donation system has also evolved with the introduction of digital payment facilities. Officials said devotees are increasingly using bank-linked QR codes to make offerings, adding a digital dimension to the traditional practice of temple donations.

Temple authorities described the offerings as a reflection of the faith and devotion of devotees, both from Tripura and outside the state. They said the regular counting of donations is an important administrative exercise to ensure accountability while preserving the sanctity of the temple.

The district administration maintained that the entire process was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, with officials closely monitoring the counting and security arrangements.

The Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, one of Tripura’s most revered religious sites, attracts large numbers of devotees throughout the year. Its significance extends beyond religious faith, with the historic shrine also serving as an important cultural and tourism destination in the state.

Officials said the continued arrival of pilgrims and tourists, along with contributions in both cash and digital formats, reflects the temple’s enduring importance.

The reopening and counting of the donation boxes once again highlighted the scale of devotion associated with the shrine, while the presence of foreign currency underscored its growing reach among visitors from outside India.
