Agartala August 4: Unity Mall will be set up in Agartala Jute Mill premises at a cost of Rs 130 crore. This unity mall with fourth floor will have 80 showrooms. This unity mall will showcase and market handloom and handicraft products, One District One Product products, GI products. Products from Tripura as well as other states and Union Territories will be marketed.
This mall will not only increase the tourist attraction of the state but will also play a special role in the economy. The state government has sent a proposal to seek financial assistance of Rs.1200 crore from Asian Development Bank for infrastructure development of industrial estates in Tripura. Minister of Industry and Commerce Santana Chakma said this in a press conference in Secretariat on Thursday while highlighting the success of the Department of Industry and Commerce. In the press conference, he also informed that 292 people have been trained in various fields such as IT enable service training, hospitality tourism, food processing etc. to make them self-reliant with the financial support of Janjati Kalyan Department. With the help of Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, 174 disabled persons and 240 destitute women have been trained to make them self-reliant. 340 people have been trained in plumber and assistant electrician trade under Jal Jeevan Mission project.
Training of 80 workers has been completed. Under this scheme, an initiative has been taken to train two persons from each Gram Panchayat and Village Council. At the same time, initiatives have been taken for the youth of the state to get employment opportunities abroad. Through the Chief Minister’s Skill Development Scheme, a target level of skill enhancement has been undertaken by training one lakh youth in the next five years. 801 people have already been trained in various districts under construction worker training scheme. Training of 80 people has been completed and 40 people are in progress through the Sankalp project. Another 300 people will be trained under this scheme in the rehabilitated North Tripura, Dholai and Gomati districts. Moreover, training of 400 people will be started through Jal Jeevan Mission. The objective of the second phase of Sankalp is to strengthen the skill ecosystem and provide marketable training by improving the quality of traditional skills. Government of India has sanctioned Rs 8 crore for this project. Rs 1 crore 77 lakh has been allocated in the first installment. So far 9,960 trainees and 206 industries have been added to the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme portal. And so far a total of 860 apprentices have been added, said Minister Santana Chakma.
