Agartala, September 21: The Purvaudaya-led “Heart of Humanity” initiative has resumed services at its Radhanagar outlet in Agartala following a period of restructuring, bringing back a free community platform for sharing food, clothing and other essential items.
Founded by social worker Niti Sharma, the Tripura-based NGO operates the outlet as an anonymous, open-access facility based on a “no questions asked” model. People can donate surplus household goods and food, while those requiring assistance can collect the available items without having to explain their circumstances.
The facility includes dedicated clothing shelves and community refrigerators that operate round the clock. The organisers said the arrangement is intended to make assistance accessible while preserving the privacy and dignity of beneficiaries.
The initiative takes inspiration from the legacy of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur and Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi. Maharaja Bir Bikram is associated with the development of modern Tripura, while Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi is remembered for her emphasis on compassion and service.
Purvaudaya said the Radhanagar outlet was reopened following feedback from residents who had expressed concerns over the apparent inactivity of some outlets. Staffing and management constraints had, according to the organisers, sometimes made the facilities appear to be permanently closed.
The organisation said the restart is aimed at restoring continuity and public confidence while strengthening the outlet as a reliable community-based support system.
Beyond providing basic necessities, the project seeks to promote a culture of sharing and responsible consumption. Residents are encouraged to donate usable items and surplus food instead of discarding them, linking the initiative’s social objectives with sustainability and environmental awareness.
“Let kindness always be in fashion” remains the campaign’s slogan, underlining its message of compassion, dignity and community participation.
With the Radhanagar outlet back in operation, Purvaudaya is seeking wider involvement from residents and hopes to expand the culture of giving and sharing across the community.
