Agartala, September 21: The handicraft traditions of Tripura are getting a national showcase at the Karnataka Saras Fair 2026, where two women Self-Help Group (SHG) members from South Tripura are presenting their products to customers and buyers from across the country.

The two participants from Poangbari BMMU are exhibiting a selection of handcrafted goods at the fair, scheduled in Karnataka from September 9 to 27. Their participation highlights the skills and creativity developed by women through community-based livelihood programmes.

The exhibition is also providing the artisans with direct access to consumers beyond Tripura. Interaction with visitors and prospective buyers is allowing them to understand market demand, receive feedback and explore opportunities to take their products to new markets.

Officials of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) said exposure through national fairs forms part of efforts to strengthen market linkages for SHG enterprises. Such platforms provide rural women with opportunities to promote their products, build business contacts and gain experience in managing market-oriented activities.

The Karnataka Saras Fair has brought together artisans, rural producers and SHG entrepreneurs representing different states, offering them a common platform to display and market locally made products.

For the Tripura representatives, the event provides an opportunity to introduce the state’s traditional craftsmanship to audiences unfamiliar with its distinctive products. The fair also creates a space for interaction among artisans from different regions.

According to officials, better market connectivity can help SHG members expand their enterprises and develop more stable livelihood opportunities. National-level exposure can also encourage women to explore new customer segments and improve the presentation and marketing of their products.

The Tripura stall has attracted visitors interested in the designs and craftsmanship of the products on display, according to officials.

The fair’s broader objective of bringing regional products together also promotes cultural exchange, allowing visitors to discover traditional crafts and livelihood practices from across India.

The participation of the two women entrepreneurs is therefore providing both a sales opportunity and a national platform for Tripura’s handicrafts, while highlighting the contribution of SHGs to women-led rural enterprise.
