The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) witnessed a significant political development on Monday as 24 newly elected Members of the District Council (MDCs) from the Tipra Motha Party formally took oath of office. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the ADC headquarters in Khumulwng and was administered by Law Secretary Shankari Das.

However, the event was marked by the absence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose four elected MDCs boycotted the ceremony. The party protested against what it alleged to be the illegal recruitment of 120 candidates during the election process. BJP leaders claimed that these appointments were made without adherence to proper procedures or transparency. Prior to the boycott, the party had also submitted a formal complaint to the Governor, demanding action over the alleged irregularities.

Despite the boycott, the ceremony underscored Tipra Motha’s return to power in the ADC, marking the beginning of its second consecutive term in the tribal council. The event drew a large gathering of party workers and supporters, reflecting strong grassroots backing and the political significance of the moment.

Following the swearing-in, party founder Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma addressed the gathering, outlining his vision for governance in the tribal areas. He emphasized that the occasion was not merely ceremonial but the starting point of a broader mission to transform administration and development in the region.

Highlighting key priorities, Pradyot stressed the need to focus on youth empowerment, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. He warned that neglecting these areas could have long-term consequences for both the state and the country.

He also called for systemic reforms that go beyond administrative changes, advocating for a shift in mindset. He proposed greater inclusion of diverse voices in policymaking, including former civil servants, members of the judiciary, students, and cultural representatives. His vision includes innovative approaches to delivering essential services such as drinking water, healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship.

Appealing to the Government of India, Pradyot stated that Tripura’s overall progress is closely linked to the development of the TTAADC, urging collective efforts to ensure inclusive growth.
