Leaders of the CPI(M) East Agartala Local Committee, led by Amal Chakraborty, staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday and submitted a deputation at East Agartala Police Station, voicing serious concern over the growing menace of drug trafficking, theft, and anti-social activities in the city.

In their deputation, the CPI(M) leaders highlighted several hotspots including Shibnagar, Chandrapur, Dhaleswar, and Azad Hind Road, where illegal activities are allegedly taking place unchecked. They claimed that ganja is being sold openly, sometimes from vehicles in broad daylight, creating an alarming situation for residents.

The leaders further alleged that drug dealers and anti-social elements are operating with political protection, which has worsened the problem. According to them, this unchecked network is fueling youth addiction, leading to social decay and unrest in the community.

The CPI(M) has put forward a series of demands before the police and administration. These include: an immediate crackdown on drug networks, strict identification and legal action against anti-social elements, enhanced night patrolling to curb rising thefts, and concrete measures to stop public drinking in lanes and alleys. The party also demanded overall restoration of law and order not only in Agartala but across the state.

Addressing reporters after the protest, Chakraborty said that the safety of common people is under threat and urged the authorities to act decisively. “The situation cannot be ignored any longer. We demand impartial and firm action to restore peace, security, and faith among the public,” he stated.

The CPI(M) reiterated that curbing the drug menace and rising criminal activities requires strong political will and strict enforcement. They warned that inaction could further endanger the future of the state’s youth and disrupt social harmony.
