Agartala: August 10: Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman on Sunday said that allegations of “irregularities” and “corrupt practices” in Tripura University, often reported in the media, were under close observation of the Higher Education Department. He added that the Union Ministry of Education is being regularly updated on such issues.
“We don’t have any direct say over the university’s administrative decisions, but that doesn’t mean we are idle. Whatever is possible within our capacity is being done,” the Minister told a local cable channel.

The Minister announced that a women’s college will soon be established in his constituency, Nalchar, as declared by the Chief Minister. Additionally, Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) and Women’s College, Agartala, are set to be upgraded to universities.
“The process for upgrading these institutions is in progress and will be completed soon,” Barman stated. The initiatives aim to enhance higher education facilities and provide more opportunities for students across the state.

Responding to the recent admission controversy at Ram Thakur College, Barman said Tripura has sufficient capacity to accommodate all eligible students. “We have around 33,000 seats across the state, while only 24,000 students passed the Higher Secondary exams this year,” he said.
He explained that although students may not get their preferred colleges due to the merit-based admission process, every student will have the opportunity to pursue higher studies. “Some students are particularly keen on certain colleges like Ram Thakur, but the admission process cannot be bypassed to satisfy a section of students,” the Minister added.
