Agartala, May 31: Torrential rainfall has continued to disrupt normal life across Tripura for the past 48 hours, with several houses damaged and hundreds of residents displaced. As per an official report released at 4 PM on Friday, a total of 93 houses have been damaged—26 severely and 67 partially—in various parts of the state.

West Tripura district has been the worst affected, particularly the sub-divisions of Mohanpur and Jirania. In Mohanpur, 17 houses suffered severe damage and 19 were partially affected, while in Jirania, 9 houses were damaged severely and 32 sustained partial damage.

In South Tripura’s Belonia sub-division, 11 houses were reported to be partially damaged. In Panisagar under North Tripura district, five homes were affected. The process of extending financial assistance to the affected families is already underway, officials confirmed.

An official from the State Emergency Operation Centre said that 207 people from 57 families have been relocated to four relief camps set up in the most affected areas.

Three of these camps have been opened in the Sadar sub-division—at Pratapgarh English Medium Higher Secondary School, Aralia Hrishi Colony SB School, and Swami Dayananda Higher Secondary School—where 165 people from 44 families are currently housed.

Another relief camp in Khowai district at Kalibari Anganwadi Centre is sheltering 42 people from 13 families.

Heavy rainfall also caused widespread tree falls, particularly in Agartala and surrounding areas. Disaster response teams, including Civil Defence volunteers, have been deployed to clear roads and remove fallen trees to restore connectivity.

With more rain forecasted, the state government remains on high alert, coordinating with district authorities to ensure relief, rescue, and safety measures are effectively implemented.
