Agartala: Dec 04: Belonia police have rescued an injured Bangladeshi national near the Belonia Muhurighat checkpoint, and the individual has been taken to Shantir Bazar District Hospital for treatment. According to the injured man, he crossed the barbed wire near the checkpoint early this morning, entering India illegally from Bangladesh without a passport. The individual is reportedly involved in the illegal trade of onions and garlic, which is a common activity along the border. However, the circumstances of his injury remain unclear, and investigations are underway.

The case has raised significant concerns, as it highlights the ongoing issue of illegal cross-border activities at the Belonia checkpoint. Smuggling, particularly of goods like onions and garlic, has been a persistent problem in the region. The injured individual’s admission of his involvement in such illegal activities underscores the widespread nature of this trade.

The incident also brings into question the effectiveness of the security measures in place at the Belonia border. Despite the presence of police, Border Security Force (BSF), and customs officers at the checkpoint, illegal crossings continue to occur regularly. This has led to growing concerns about the adequacy of border security and the role of these authorities in preventing such activities. The investigation by Belonia police aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the injury and to assess any lapses in border control that might have contributed to the illegal entry.

The situation calls for a reassessment of the measures in place at the border, especially with regard to monitoring and controlling illegal trade. The authorities are under scrutiny as the public demands more stringent enforcement to curb illegal activities at the Belonia border and ensure the safety and security of the region.
