Agartala: August 19: The 116th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Dev Varman was celebrated on Monday with a special program at Rabindra Bhavan, organized by the Department of Information and Culture. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha was the chief guest at the event.
The program began with the Chief Minister inaugurating the event by lighting a lamp. Following this, Dr. Saha and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the portrait of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Dev Varman.
In his speech, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the importance of educating the new generation about Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Dev Varman. He highlighted the Maharaja’s contributions to the development of Tripura and his role as the architect of modern Tripura. Dr. Saha noted that previous governments did not adequately recognize the Maharaja’s work, but the current government has taken steps to honor the Maharajas, including naming Agartala Airport after Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Dev Varman and installing his statue at the airport and Kaman Chowmuhani.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the government’s efforts to develop the tribal community and acknowledged the talents within the community. He pointed out that several citizens of the state have received the Padma Shri award since 2019 and highlighted the recent appointment of Yishnu Dev Varma, a descendant of the royal family of Tripura, as the Governor of Telangana.
The event was attended by MP Kriti Singh Dev Varman, MLA Rampad Jamatia, Secretary of the Department of Information and Culture PK Chakraborty, and other dignitaries. MLA Rampad Jamatia was felicitated at the event, which also saw the participation of students from various schools and colleges.
