Agartala: July 11: As the panchayat election notification was issued, the Left Front wasted no time in submitting nomination papers. Today, Leftist candidates marched to the West Tripura District Council to formalize their candidacies.
Convenor of the Left Front, Narayan Kar, emphasized the significance of these three-tier panchayat elections for the entire country, especially rural communities. He pointed out that the BJP suffered a major setback in the recent Lok Sabha elections, losing 159 seats in rural India. For the welfare of rural residents, defeating the BJP is crucial.
Narayan Kar accused the ruling party of rampant corruption, alleging that a faction supported by the BJP is embezzling crores of rupees meant for development. Urging voters to reject these “looters,” he asserted that the united Left Front is prepared to support any candidate willing to challenge the BJP.
CPM leader Pavitra Kar confirmed that Left Front-backed candidates would submit nominations in 35 seats today. Despite concerns about a lack of free voting environment, the Left remains confident. In the past, the BJP forcibly secured over 96 percent of seats in the panchayat elections, diverting attention from genuine development.
Jitendra Chowdhury, CPM state secretary and opposition leader, expressed his frustration at the announcement of the panchayat elections. He criticized the erosion of democratic values since the BJP came to power in 2018, citing false promises and inducements. With 80 percent of the population residing in villages, their participation is vital for the state’s financial progress.
