Panisagar, Oct 5: A violent clash over a long-standing family land dispute left three members of a household critically injured in Ward No. 3 of North Padmabil Gram Panchayat under Panisagar Police Station on Sunday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 2 p.m., has sparked widespread concern in the local community.
According to reports, the attack arose from deep-rooted tensions within the family. In the absence of the elder brother, Chapar Uddin, his younger siblings — Basar Uddin (42) and Nizam Uddin (50) — allegedly stormed into his residence and launched a brutal assault. While the altercation was reportedly triggered by claims that Chapar Uddin’s goat had damaged their vegetable crops, the victims believe the real motive was to seize family property.
Armed with sticks, wooden rods, and sharp weapons, the assailants allegedly attacked Chapar Uddin’s wife Zarina Begum (45), daughter Dilwara Begum (16), and son Abdul Selim (7). All three sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Uthakhali Hospital. As their condition worsened, Zarina and Dilwara were later shifted to the district hospital in Dharmanagar for advanced treatment.
Medical sources confirmed that while young Abdul Selim is recovering, Dilwara has suffered a fractured spine and remains bedridden. Zarina sustained serious head injuries and a broken arm, leaving her unable to move.
Chapar Uddin, facing severe financial hardship, has been unable to afford specialized treatment outside the state. He has filed a case of attempted murder at Panisagar Police Station but alleges that the accused are threatening him to withdraw the complaint.
Fearing for his family’s safety, he has taken shelter at his in-laws’ house in Shanicherra and appealed to the district administration for protection and justice as his family continues to live in fear and uncertainty.
