Agartala: Mar 17: During a session in the Rajya Sabha, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee emphasized the critical importance of railway safety, highlighting the allocation of ₹1.16 lakh crore for this purpose in the central budget. He stressed that development initiatives must be driven by good intentions, noting that the lack of progress in the railway sector had previously hindered India’s growth.
Bhattacharjee pointed out the significant strides made in the northeastern region since 2014, under the Modi government’s leadership. He cited the commencement of the broad-gauge railway line in Agartala, Tripura, within two years of the government’s formation, as well as the introduction of the Vande Bharat train connecting Agartala and Guwahati. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for these advancements.
The MP also highlighted a notable reduction in railway accidents, from 234 incidents in 2005-06 to just 30 in 2024-25, attributing this improvement to the government’s commitment to development and safety.
