Agartala, Aug 9: In a significant development for Tripura, the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday approved a fund of ₹250 crore for the state. The allocation will be spread over four years from the financial year 2025–26 to 2028–29 and is aimed at fulfilling commitments made under the Memorandum of Settlements (MoS) signed with the National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).
The financial support is targeted at one of the key components of the peace accord and is intended to enhance development initiatives in areas affected by insurgency in the past.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Government for the timely support. In a statement, Dr. Saha highlighted that the fund would help uplift the socio-economic condition of marginalized and vulnerable groups who have not been adequately covered under existing welfare schemes.
“This financial aid will play a crucial role in generating employment opportunities, expanding healthcare services, improving education and skill development, and promoting income-generating livelihood activities, especially for youth and women,” said Dr. Saha.
He further added that the initiative would also encourage tourism in the region, drawing visitors from across the country and creating additional avenues for employment and local economic growth.
The Cabinet’s approval reaffirms the Central Government’s commitment to the long-term peace, development, and integration of the northeastern region. It also reflects the Centre’s focus on ensuring that post-insurgency rehabilitation measures are implemented effectively and inclusively.
With the allocation now cleared, the Tripura government is expected to roll out detailed implementation plans in the coming months to ensure efficient utilization of the funds for sustainable development.
