Udaipur, Feb 4:
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, accompanied by local MLA Ramapad Jamatia, visited Agriculture Chowmuhani in Udaipur on Wednesday to meet the family of Sabita Saha, the elderly woman who lost her life in a tragic road accident late Monday night. The leaders expressed their condolences to her son, Raju Saha, and assured the bereaved family of government support during this difficult time.

During the visit, MLA Ramapad Jamatia handed over immediate assistance to the family. Both leaders also promised to explore additional measures to help the household cope with the loss and rebuild their lives. The visit was aimed at providing reassurance and demonstrating the government’s commitment to standing by citizens affected by such tragedies.

The fatal incident occurred late on Monday night when a speeding truck reportedly lost control and crashed into a residential house near the busy Agriculture Chowmuhani junction. At the time of the accident, Sabita Saha was asleep inside the house along with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. While other family members narrowly escaped, Sabita was trapped beneath the truck and died on the spot.

Personnel from the Udaipur Fire Department and local police rushed to the scene immediately after the crash. Rescue teams pulled the surviving family members from the debris and later recovered Sabita’s body, which was sent to Gomati District Hospital for formalities. The impact of the collision triggered panic in the neighbourhood, with residents describing a deafening noise and scenes of chaos as parts of the house collapsed.

The incident has once again highlighted serious road safety concerns in Udaipur. Agriculture Chowmuhani, which connects two bridges, is known for heavy traffic movement and frequent accidents. Local residents have long blamed poor road design, inadequate traffic regulation and lack of safety infrastructure for repeated mishaps in the area.

In the wake of the tragedy, demands have intensified for stricter traffic control, improved road engineering, and the construction of pedestrian safety measures. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the Finance Minister’s visit has offered some reassurance, with assurances that the government will examine steps to enhance safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
