Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday alleged that certain groups “under the name of Motha” have turned to violence after losing public support ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Addressing an election rally at Birchandranagar–Kalsi constituency in South Tripura district, Dr Saha claimed that a violent incident had taken place earlier in the day in Kamalpur. He said the development reflects growing frustration among political rivals as the elections draw closer.

“After losing people’s confidence before the ADC polls, they have now entered into the politics of violence. Even today, an attack was carried out at a place in Kamalpur,” the Chief Minister stated, warning that such actions would not be tolerated.

Dr Saha further accused the opposing group of adopting a dual approach—making one set of claims in public while acting differently behind the scenes. He also alleged that despite being part of an alliance in the past, they repeatedly functioned as an opposition force and attempted to pressure the government for political gains.

“This kind of blackmailing will not be accepted anymore. Following our firm stand, some people under the name of Motha have lost direction and are now indulging in violence and hooliganism. The law will take its course,” he asserted.

Raising concerns over alleged misuse of public funds, the Chief Minister claimed that despite receiving substantial financial allocations, the current ADC administration failed to deliver visible development. He assured that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in the council, a comprehensive review of funds and development works would be carried out to ensure transparency and accountability.

Appealing to voters, Dr Saha said that only the BJP can ensure genuine and sustained development in the autonomous district areas. He reiterated the party’s vision of establishing a “triple-engine government” to accelerate growth and welfare initiatives in tribal regions.

During his address, the Chief Minister also highlighted various schemes and programmes undertaken by the BJP-led government for Janajati development, emphasizing infrastructure, welfare, and inclusive growth as key priorities.

With campaigning intensifying, the Chief Minister’s remarks signal a sharper political contest as parties gear up for the crucial TTAADC elections.
