Agartala, January 31: Security forces at the Indo-Bangla border in the Jaypur area of Tripura detained two Bangladeshi nationals on Friday, following a coordinated operation by the Border Security Force (BSF). The 42nd Battalion of the BSF carried out the operation after receiving a tip-off from confidential sources regarding the suspected illegal entry.

The individuals have been identified as Jahangir Mia and Hriday Sarkar, both residents of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh. BSF officials said preliminary investigations suggest that the duo crossed the international border without authorisation and entered Indian territory illegally. “We received information from reliable sources about their movement near the border. Prompt action was taken to apprehend them,” a senior BSF officer said.

Following their detention, the BSF initiated a joint interrogation with the Tripura Police to determine the motive behind the illegal entry and to investigate whether any larger network or activity is involved. Officials are reportedly verifying their backgrounds and cross-checking travel history to ensure there are no security risks linked to their presence in India.

Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of West Police Station, confirmed that both detainees will be produced before the local court on Saturday. Legal proceedings are expected to be initiated under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Foreigners Act.

The arrest highlights the vigilance of security forces along the Indo-Bangla border, which has seen increasing monitoring in recent months to prevent unlawful crossings, smuggling, and other cross-border crimes. BSF officials said they continue to maintain close coordination with the state police and other agencies to safeguard national security while ensuring that all procedures comply with legal norms.

Authorities have appealed to citizens living near border areas to report any suspicious movements promptly to the BSF or local police to strengthen surveillance and maintain peace along the sensitive border regions.
