Agartala, October 31: Tortoises are being illegally smuggled despite state government bans. Turtle meat is being sold in various markets of the state.
It is known that a person was carrying turtles in a bag in the area adjacent to the Pratapgarh hanging bridge in the capital town. A turtle then fell out of the man’s bag onto the road. Then the locals of the area witnessed the matter. They immediately rescued the turtle.
Tortoise tries to arrest the porter but the man escapes. After that the locals released the turtle in the pond of Lakshmi Narayan Bari temple.
They believed the turtles were being smuggled illegally. When they tried to catch him, the man managed to escape.
