Agartala: Feb 21: The Tripura United Indigenous People’s Rights Committee (TUIRPC) has announced a blockade of the national highway in Baramura on February 25. The organization’s president, Daniel Debbarma, led a delegation to the bridge area in Baramura on Friday and stated that the blockade will commence at 6 am on February 25.
The decision to blockade comes after the government’s assurance to fulfill their demands through a peace agreement, which the TUIRPC claims has not been met. The organization’s president mentioned that the government had promised food and accommodation, which have not been provided, leading to the current agitation.
Daniel Debbarma also criticized the Tripura Tribal Welfare Department for not functioning properly, exacerbating the issues faced by the indigenous people. He emphasized that the blockade is a means to assert their rights and address their grievances.
The TUIRPC’s actions reflect ongoing tensions and dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of indigenous rights and promises made during peace negotiations.
