Agartala, July 29: In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening financial inclusion and rural livelihoods, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Transrural Consulting Private Limited to conduct an impact assessment of its financial literacy programmes implemented through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the state.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday, appointing Transrural Consulting Pvt. Ltd. as the Technical Support Agency (TSA) to evaluate the effectiveness of financial literacy training imparted to SHGs and their members under various TRLM initiatives. The study is expected to provide an evidence-based assessment of the programme’s outcomes and recommend measures to improve future interventions.

According to officials, the impact assessment will examine how financial literacy training has influenced the financial awareness, savings habits, budgeting practices, borrowing decisions and overall financial behaviour of SHG members, particularly rural women. The study will also evaluate whether the training has enhanced participants’ decision-making abilities and strengthened their confidence in managing household finances and livelihood activities.

The assessment will identify the strengths of the existing programme while highlighting implementation gaps and areas that require further improvement. Officials said the findings will help TRLM design more effective financial literacy modules and ensure that future training programmes are better aligned with the needs of rural communities.

The study is also expected to contribute to the broader goal of financial inclusion by identifying best practices that can improve access to banking services, responsible credit usage and sustainable income generation among SHG members. By strengthening financial management skills, TRLM aims to enhance the economic resilience of rural women and support long-term livelihood development.

Officials said the collaboration with Transrural Consulting reflects TRLM’s commitment to evidence-based policymaking and continuous improvement of its community development programmes. The findings of the assessment will serve as an important tool for strengthening ongoing initiatives and formulating future strategies to empower women through financial education.

The initiative underscores the state government’s continued focus on promoting sustainable rural livelihoods through capacity building, financial empowerment and inclusive development. By evaluating the real impact of financial literacy programmes, TRLM hopes to further strengthen the role of Self-Help Groups in improving the socio-economic condition of rural families across Tripura.
