Tripura’s tourism sector received a major boost on Monday as Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury laid the foundation stone for two landmark projects at Sachindranagar in Jirania under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. The projects include the development of a “Tripura Traditional Village and Musical Heritage Experience” and a modern amusement and eco-tourism park inspired by Kolkata’s Nicco Park.

The Union Tourism Department sanctioned Rs 48.94 crore for the initiatives in March 2025. Tourism Minister Chowdhury said the projects are expected to be completed within two years and will significantly enhance tourist inflow while creating employment opportunities for local youth.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Saha highlighted Tripura’s rapid progress across sectors, noting that the state is the first in India to achieve deregulation, with its model showcased nationally. He said Tripura ranks second in the Northeast in GSDP growth and per capita income, and has been recognized by NITI Aayog as a front-runner state.

Dr. Saha announced plans to introduce Tourist Police to ensure visitor safety as tourism expands. He also highlighted successful initiatives like Unity Promo Fest 2025 and investments supporting small industries. Emphasizing Tripura’s rich natural and cultural heritage, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a “New Tripura” through sustainable development and tourism-led growth.
