The Tripura government on Sunday reassured residents that fuel and cooking gas supplies across the state remain stable and uninterrupted, urging people not to be misled by rumours amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Addressing concerns, Special Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Debapriya Bardhan, said that the Centre has already taken multiple proactive steps to safeguard supply chains, ensuring there is no disruption at the state level. “In Tripura, the fuel and gas supply chains are completely normal. The reserves are almost the same as in normal times,” he stated.

Bardhan confirmed that LPG bottling and distribution operations are continuing without any hindrance. “The bottling process is underway as usual, and consignments scheduled to arrive are moving without disruptions,” he said, dismissing fears of shortages.

He elaborated on the distribution mechanism, noting that LPG bottling is carried out at Bodhjungnagar, from where cylinders are supplied to five districts. The remaining three districts are serviced through Silchar in neighbouring Assam, ensuring seamless coverage across the state.

Highlighting the government’s prioritised approach, Bardhan said that while commercial LPG supply is currently maintained at around 70 per cent, essential sectors such as healthcare and education are receiving full, uninterrupted supply. “We are ensuring 100 per cent supply to priority sectors,” he added.

The official further assured that both LPG distributors and petrol pumps have adequate stock to meet consumer demand. “There is no shortage at any retail outlet. Supplies are sufficient and stable,” he said.

On the expansion of energy infrastructure, Bardhan revealed that around 70,000 domestic and commercial Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections are currently operational in Tripura. He added that the Industries Department is working on expanding the PNG network to other parts of the state, including industrial estates where it is increasingly being used as a primary fuel.

Reiterating the government’s strict stance against malpractice, Bardhan warned that any instances of hoarding or black marketing would invite stringent action. He said regular monitoring and review meetings are being conducted at both district and state levels to prevent any artificial crisis.
