Agartala, November 30:
Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Sunday announced that the Raj Bhavan of the state will be officially renamed as Lok Bhavan, in accordance with a decision taken by the Central Government. The new name will come into effect from December 1, 2025, marking a symbolic shift toward strengthening the democratic ethos of the nation.

Explaining the rationale behind the change, the Governor said that the term Raj Bhavan carries historical connotations of monarchy, which do not align with the functioning of a modern democratic republic. “The name Raj Bhavan itself bears some reference to monarchy, while we are living in a democratic setup. Since we live in a country where governments are elected by the people, the government has decided to rename Raj Bhavan and call it Lok Bhavan. This will come into effect from December 01,” he stated.

Governor Reddy emphasized that the renaming reflects the spirit of a people-centric governance structure, where institutions are increasingly oriented towards public welfare and transparency. He added that the move is part of a larger initiative aimed at reinforcing democratic values and making constitutional institutions more accessible to the citizens.

In a significant announcement, the Governor also declared that the doors of his official residence—soon to be known as Lok Bhavan—will be opened to the general public. He assured that specific timings for public interaction will be notified in the coming days, enabling citizens to directly approach the Governor’s office for grievances, suggestions, or interactions.

The decision has drawn public attention as it underscores an effort to promote inclusivity and reshape symbols of governance to reflect the democratic identity of the country. The renaming is expected to be formally marked with an official ceremony on December 1, ushering in a new chapter for Tripura’s highest constitutional office.
