In a significant achievement for Tripura’s healthcare sector, doctors at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Agartala have successfully treated a rare and complex ear condition in a 19-year-old girl from Sekerkot, restoring her normal health and hearing.

According to hospital sources, the young patient had been suffering from severe pain and complications in her right ear for a long period. The condition gradually led to partial hearing loss along with recurring headaches. Despite seeking treatment at several places earlier, she could not find a permanent solution to the problem. Eventually, her family brought her to the ENT Department of IGM Hospital for specialised medical care.

At the hospital, ENT specialist Dr. Lakshman Bhattacharjee conducted a detailed examination and advised comprehensive medical investigations. The reports revealed that the patient was suffering from Ceruminoma, a rare tumour that develops in the external ear canal. Doctors explained that the tumour was responsible for the persistent pain and hearing complications.

Dr. Bhattacharjee stated that surgical intervention was necessary to restore the ear’s normal functioning and prevent further complications. Following medical evaluation, the patient was admitted to the hospital on March 3 and underwent a successful surgical procedure on March 5.

The operation was performed by a specialised medical team that included ENT specialists Dr. Lakshman Bhattacharjee and Dr. Subrata Biswas, anaesthesiologist Dr. Pradip Jamatia and nursing officer Chandana Pal.

After the surgery, the patient showed steady recovery and was discharged from the hospital on March 7. Hospital authorities confirmed that all medical tests, treatment procedures and medicines were provided free of cost.

Family members of the patient expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and healthcare staff for their dedication and care. Officials from the state health department noted that the successful treatment reflects the improving medical infrastructure and expertise in Tripura, where complex and rare conditions are increasingly being managed effectively by specialist doctors.
