In a major step to strengthen labour welfare services, the Labour Department, Government of Tripura on Wednesday launched a dynamic web-based application and mobile app under the Nirman Shramik Kalyan Prakalp. The digital platform was inaugurated by Labour, Youth Affairs and Sports, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Roy emphasised the importance of ensuring that welfare schemes effectively reach workers at the grassroots level. He said the new digital platform will make it easier for construction workers to register, access welfare benefits and avail essential services in a faster and more transparent manner. According to him, the initiative marks a milestone in protecting workers’ rights while leveraging technology to improve service delivery.

The Minister highlighted that the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board has already registered 44,389 construction workers. During the current financial year, the board has collected Rs 53.18 crore as cess to be used for workers’ welfare. Out of this amount, Rs 23.06 crore has already been distributed to 26,729 beneficiaries for various schemes including education support, marriage assistance, maternity benefits, medical treatment, pensions, death compensation, funeral aid, school supplies and flood relief. Beneficiaries have also received coverage under the Ayushman Bharat health scheme.

Roy further announced that district labour offices will be set up in Kailashahar and Belonia, while additional offices are planned in Khowai and Gomati districts. To improve accessibility for workers, Labour Chowks will initially be established in Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Belonia, Agartala and Udaipur, with plans to expand them to other labour-intensive areas across the state.

During the programme, new registration cards were distributed to workers from eight districts. Financial assistance was also provided, including marriage support of Rs 50,000, accident relief of Rs 4 lakh, maternity benefits of Rs 8,000 and higher education assistance of Rs 20,000. Senior officials including IT Secretary Kiran Gitte, Labour Secretary Tapas Roy and Labour Commissioner Biswajit Pal were present at the event.
