Agartala, November 5: The Tripura government will observe the 150th anniversary of India’s national song ‘Vande Mataram’ through a year-long series of celebrations beginning November 7, 2025, Transport Minister and Cabinet Spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, Chowdhury said the celebrations will be conducted in four phases as part of a nationwide initiative launched by the Union Ministry of Culture. The state’s Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department has been designated as the nodal agency to coordinate and organise the programmes across Tripura.
“The Ministry of Culture conveyed the decision to all states through video conferencing. Following the directive, we have framed a detailed plan for the year-long observance,” Chowdhury said.
The inaugural function will be held at the Civil Secretariat on November 7, 2025, and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. Similar programmes will be organised across all eight districts of the state.
Minister Ratan Lal Nath and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee will attend the West Tripura event, while Sushanta Chowdhury will participate in Sepahijala. Minister Pranajit Singha Roy will join celebrations in Gomati, and Shukla Charan Noatia will attend the South Tripura event. Bikash Debbarma and Animesh Debbarma are expected to participate in Khowai, while Santana Chakma, Tinku Roy, and Sudhangshu Das will attend programmes in North Tripura, Unakoti, and Dhalai, respectively.
Chowdhury added that Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu has been invited to the Dhalai district celebration. Events will also be held at sub-divisional headquarters and urban local bodies, with local MLAs participating.
Describing Vande Mataram as “the soul of India’s freedom struggle,” Chowdhury said its message of unity and patriotism continues to inspire generations across the nation.
