Agartala, June 9 — In a major boost to the state’s healthcare infrastructure, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday announced the state government’s initiative to build a 100-bedded Tertiary Eye Hospital in Agartala. The hospital, equipped with modern facilities, will be developed near the ILS Hospital with an allocation of ₹5 crore already made in the state budget.

Speaking at an event held at Tufania Lunga School ground in Bamutia, Dr. Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services so that people do not have to seek expensive treatment outside the state. He also highlighted ongoing collaboration with AIIMS Delhi, noting that a team from the institute visited AGMC and GBP Hospital for discussions and inspections. The team will remain in the state until Monday.

“Our government is working tirelessly to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of *Viksit Bharat*, ensuring development reaches the last mile,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha also spoke about the ‘Mukhyamantri Cha Shramik Kalyan Yojana’, a welfare scheme for tea workers launched in 2022 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Under this initiative, the government is allocating abandoned tea gardens to workers through co-operatives and lease arrangements.

So far, 241 land pattas have been distributed in Mohanpur sub-division — 114 in Kalacherra, 35 in Durgabari, and 92 in Mohanpur. On Sunday, 82 more pattas were handed over to beneficiaries.

The Chief Minister inaugurated an administrative camp and launched several initiatives, including anti-drug awareness drives, health and legal camps, blood donation drives, distribution of agricultural equipment, and a tree plantation campaign.

During his visit, Dr. Saha also met PMAY-G beneficiary Payari Tanti, a tea worker from Tufania Lunga Tea Garden, and listened to her family’s experience of transformation through government welfare schemes.
