Agartala, June 23: Tripura’s statewide health awareness initiative, the ‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026’, gathered further momentum on Tuesday with a district-level awareness programme organized at the Community Hall of Ward No. 39 in Agartala. The event was conducted by the Ashrampara Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) as part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to prevent diarrhoeal diseases and safeguard child health.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumdar, who emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, hygiene, and community participation in combating diarrhoea, a disease that continues to pose significant health risks, particularly among children.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor urged families to adopt proper sanitation and hygiene practices and actively participate in awareness activities being carried out under the campaign. He stressed that public awareness and timely medical intervention are key to reducing the incidence of diarrhoeal diseases and preventing related complications.

The event was attended by AMC Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Corporator Alok Roy, and Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Chief Medical Officer of West Tripura district, along with senior officials, healthcare workers, and representatives of the state health department.

Launched across Tripura on June 16, the campaign will continue until July 31, 2026, covering both urban and rural areas of the state. During this period, health workers will conduct extensive awareness drives, distribute educational materials, promote safe drinking water practices, and educate communities on sanitation, handwashing, and early treatment measures.

Officials said the primary objective of the campaign is to ensure that every child and household remains protected from diarrhoeal diseases, thereby reducing cases of severe illness, hospitalization, and mortality. They noted that diarrhoea remains one of the leading public health concerns affecting children and can be effectively prevented through improved hygiene and timely healthcare.

By engaging local communities, schools, health institutions, and grassroots workers, the campaign aims to foster a culture of preventive healthcare and encourage families to adopt healthy practices. Health authorities expressed confidence that sustained awareness and community participation would play a crucial role in improving child health outcomes across Tripura.
