Addressing the main Republic Day समारोह at the Assam Rifles ground after unfurling the National Flag, the Governor said more than 1.08 lakh women in Tripura have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’. A ‘Lakhpati Didi’ is a member of a Self-Help Group (SHG) whose annual household income exceeds Rs 1 lakh, reflecting the success of the state’s focused initiatives on women-led livelihoods.

Emphasising the government’s commitment to girl child welfare, Reddy Nallu said a new scheme titled Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana (MBSY) has been launched to support higher education of girls from Antyodaya families and prevent child marriage. Under the scheme, eligible girl children born on or after April 1, 2025, will receive a one-time financial assistance of Rs 50,000, with benefits limited to two girl children per family. Another scheme, Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana, will provide Rs 50,000 to girls aged 18 years and above from Antyodaya families for marriage purposes.

Highlighting achievements in education, the Governor said Tripura was declared a fully literate state on June 23, 2025, becoming the third in the country to achieve this distinction. The literacy rate has risen to 95.6 per cent through effective implementation of the ULLAS programme. He also announced the upgradation of the Women’s College into Tripura Government Women’s University, the conversion of Tripura Institute of Technology into a State Technical University, and the establishment of a new Women’s College at Nalchar.

On tourism, the Governor said projects worth over Rs 329 crore are underway, including development of the historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple and creation of replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas. He added that Tripura currently has six National Highways spanning 923.31 km, with four more sanctioned, further strengthening connectivity and growth.
