Addressing the state-level consultative workshop on “Strengthening Cyber Security Frameworks for State Data” at Prajna Bhavan in Agartala, Sinha said governments must remain vigilant as increasing digitalisation has significantly expanded the volume of critical data being generated and processed. He stressed the need for robust cybersecurity mechanisms, institutional preparedness, continuous monitoring, and capacity building to safeguard digital assets and ensure uninterrupted public service delivery.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura, and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It forms part of a nationwide initiative aimed at enhancing cybersecurity preparedness across states and Union Territories.

Among those present were Director General of Police and Head of Police Force Anurag, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests R.K. Samal, Director of Information Technology Jeya Ragul Geshan B (IFS), senior government officials, representatives from NeGD, cybersecurity experts, and members of technical institutions under the New Generation Innovation Network (NGIN).

The discussions highlighted Tripura’s progress in digital governance, with officials noting that the state has emerged as one of the leading performers in the North-East. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and the guidance of Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tripura has implemented several key digital initiatives, including extending the eOffice system to the Gram Panchayat level, making it the first state in the country to achieve such extensive paperless governance coverage.

The state has also modernised the Tripura State Data Centre (TSDC), established the Tripura Security Operations Centre (TSOC), expanded SWAN and HSWAN connectivity, implemented BharatNet in rural areas, and launched multiple citizen-centric digital platforms.

Presenting the state’s cybersecurity roadmap, IT Director Jeya Ragul Geshan B said cybersecurity has evolved beyond a technological issue into a governance imperative requiring coordinated action, secure-by-design systems, zero-trust architecture, regular risk assessments, and continuous capacity building. He expressed confidence that the workshop’s recommendations would strengthen Tripura’s cyber resilience while contributing to the formulation of a comprehensive national framework for securing state data and digital infrastructure.
