Tripura Recovers from Devastating Floods, Restoration Efforts Underway

Agartala: Sept 13: At a press conference held on Friday, it was announced that Tripura Power Transmission Limited has successfully restored most electricity services following the devastating floods that affected the state between August 19 and 23.

The floods caused extensive damage to the state’s power infrastructure, resulting in a total loss of approximately ₹638.16 crores. Tripura Power Transmission Limited alone suffered a loss of ₹37.25 crores. Despite these challenges, the company has managed to restore 54% of the damaged infrastructure in a short period. 3,611 distribution transformers were damaged; Over 5,057 kilometers of power lines were severed, 6,803 electricity poles were broken 144.5 kilometers of underground cables were damaged, 8,052 kilometers of LTAB cables were damaged, 72 breakers were damaged, 2,730 kilometers of PVC wire were damaged.

The company has worked tirelessly to restore electricity services, with 99% of the state already having power restored. Remaining areas, such as Amarpur and Bilonia, are facing challenges due to road damage and inaccessible locations.

The floods also significantly damaged the state’s water supply infrastructure, including 48 surface water treatment plants, 1,262 deep tube wells, and over 2,000 other water sources. The total financial loss to the water supply and sanitation department is estimated at ₹171.41 crores.

The floods caused damage worth ₹73.6935 crores to various public infrastructure, including roads, drains, culverts, bridges, water supply systems, and buildings across 20 urban local bodies.

Despite the challenges, the state government and its agencies have worked diligently to restore essential services and bring the situation under control.
