Kanchanpur, Aug 8, 2025 — A 12-member delegation from the Tripura Nath Yogi Forum on Friday visited the bereaved family of truck driver Mihir Lal Debnath, who recently lost his life in a tragic road accident near Chakmaghat in Teliamura.
Led by Forum state president Harihar Debnath, the delegation included members from Dhalai and North Tripura districts. They travelled to Mihir’s native village of Barahaldi in Kanchanpur, North Tripura, to offer condolences and participate in the driver’s Shraddha ceremony.
After the rituals, the Forum members presented new clothes and religious books to Mihir’s parents, Manik Lal Nath and Chinu Nath, as a gesture of solidarity and support.
Later in the day, the delegation submitted a memorandum to the Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, demanding a government job for one member of Mihir’s family and financial compensation of ₹20 lakh. In the absence of the SDM, the memorandum was received by the Deputy Collector & Magistrate.
Speaking to reporters, Forum president Harihar Debnath described Mihir’s death as “one of the rarest tragedies in Tripura’s history.” He alleged that despite pleading for help for nearly five to seven hours after the accident, the driver could not be rescued due to the absence of an effective emergency response system.
Debnath urged the administration to take concrete measures to prevent such incidents, stressing the need for timely rescue operations and better road safety mechanisms. He also assured the family that the Forum would continue to provide support in the days ahead.
The delegation comprised Dhalai district president Kumud Nath Bhowmik, vice-president Sumit Debnath, treasurer Nikhil Chandra Debnath, state committee member Bimal Debnath, North district president Pronay Nath, and other Forum members.
