Agartala: May 23: Tripura MLA Sudip Roy Barman has called on Chief Minister Manik Saha to intervene in a pension-related issue affecting state pensioners. According to Supreme Court guidelines, pensioners who have sold a portion of their pension should regain full pension after 128 months. However, the current rules in Tripura extend deductions over 180 months, leading to significant financial losses for pensioners.

Roy Barman pointed out that pensioners can sell up to 40% of their basic pension for immediate financial relief, but the extended repayment period has caused undue hardship. He referenced a Supreme Court ruling that limited deductions to 128 months for central government pensioners and emphasized that the directive applies to state government pensioners as well.

With an estimated 50,000 pensioners affected in Tripura, Roy Barman has urged the Chief Minister to take swift action to resolve the issue.
