Agartala, October 7: Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday urged students of Maharaja Bir Bikram College to use their college years to acquire knowledge and skills, develop strong values and prepare themselves to contribute to society.
Addressing the Nabin Baran (Freshers’ Welcome) ceremony for the 2026-27 academic session at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Chowdhury said joining college marked the beginning of an important chapter in the lives of young people.
“Today begins one of the most important chapters of your life. College is not just about academic learning—it is about discovering yourself, gaining knowledge and skills, enriching values, and preparing to turn your dreams into reality,” he said.
He advised the newly admitted students to set clear goals, work with determination and remain committed to their aspirations.
Chowdhury said education should not be confined to classrooms and examinations, but should also help students develop confidence, character and a sense of responsibility.
He urged the students to remain disciplined and understand their responsibilities towards society while pursuing their academic and personal goals.
The minister said students of Maharaja Bir Bikram College could contribute to the development of Tripura and the country by making effective use of the opportunities provided by higher education.
“Your success will be Tripura’s success. Dream, work hard, and remain steadfast in your goals. May your journey be illuminated with knowledge, achievement, humanity, and a bright future,” he said.
The Nabin Baran ceremony welcomed hundreds of newly admitted students to the college and marked the formal beginning of their higher education journey.
The programme also familiarised the freshers with the institution’s academic environment and encouraged them to participate in academic, cultural and social activities.
Students were advised to maintain a balance between studies and other activities while developing leadership qualities, discipline and social awareness.
The event stressed the importance of character-building and responsible citizenship as integral parts of higher education.
Maharaja Bir Bikram College is one of Tripura’s prominent institutions of higher education and has contributed to the state’s academic and cultural development.
The minister’s participation in the programme highlighted the focus on youth development and the role of higher education in preparing students for future challenges.
The ceremony concluded with best wishes to the new batch as they embarked on their college journey, with students being encouraged to pursue their goals and contribute positively to society and the state’s development.
