Tripura SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Thursday directed Block Development Officers (BDOs) and officials from various departments to remain alert and responsive to public grievances, especially in rural areas facing drought-like conditions and severe drinking water shortages.

Addressing a high-level review meeting, Das stressed the need for coordinated grassroots action to ensure uninterrupted delivery of welfare schemes and development services across affected regions. The meeting was attended by the Sabhadhipati, Panchayat Samiti Chairman, District Magistrate, BDOs, and representatives from departments including Rural Development (RD), Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS), PMGSY, Public Works Department (PWD), and other line departments.

The minister emphasized that villages remain the government’s top priority as several rural pockets continue to struggle with the prolonged dry spell. He instructed officials to remain vigilant until the arrival of the monsoon and ensure that complaints from the public are addressed without delay.

“The situation has become critical in several areas. Drinking water scarcity and pressure on rural livelihoods are increasing every day. Officials must act promptly and ensure relief reaches affected households at the earliest,” Das said while speaking to reporters after the meeting.

He also reminded government officials that their performance is being closely monitored and warned that negligence or delay in responding to public issues would invite strict administrative action.

Das acknowledged that the state administration is still dealing with multiple challenges in the post-COVID period, including pressure on infrastructure and public services. Despite these difficulties, he said the government remains committed to serving people with sincerity, efficiency and preparedness.

According to officials, special attention is being given to rural drinking water supply, road connectivity and implementation of welfare schemes in vulnerable areas. Departments have been instructed to maintain regular coordination and submit field-level updates to the administration.

The minister further urged local officials to maintain close communication with residents and promptly resolve grievances to prevent the situation from worsening before the onset of the monsoon season.
