Agartala, June 1: In a significant move aimed at modernizing agriculture and promoting self-reliance ahead of the Kharif season, the Tripura government has launched the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’. The initiative is part of a nationwide campaign to transform the agricultural sector through innovative reforms and farmer-focused development.
The campaign, which began on May 29 and will continue till June 12, seeks to equip farmers with knowledge on modern farming techniques, climate-resilient agriculture, organic practices, and the use of advanced technologies such as drones. The campaign also emphasizes sustainable livestock rearing and fisheries development.
Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the government’s commitment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to uplift the farming community and make agriculture more profitable and resilient. “Food self-sufficiency in India has been made possible by the tireless efforts of farmers. This campaign is our way of empowering them further,” he said.
Across Tripura, the campaign will be carried out in 864 locations across all eight districts, with three committees formed per district to oversee the implementation. Each day, 72 awareness sessions will be conducted to educate farmers about financial assistance, soil suitability, and other critical aspects of agriculture.
One of the highlights of the event was Minister Nath inviting a farmer to sit in the dignitary’s seat on stage, even touching his feet to express gratitude—a symbolic gesture recognizing the farmer’s contribution to the nation.
At an awareness program held at Rudrabani Community Hall in Madhya Singichhara Gram Panchayat, dignitaries such as Khowai Zilla Sabhadhipati Aparna Singh Roy and social worker Anukul Das attended alongside agriculture department officials.
To reach grassroots farmers, 24 agricultural awareness vans will be deployed across the state as part of the campaign.
