The meeting, held at the Labour Directorate office on Office Lane, focused on protecting workers’ rights, strengthening social security coverage and improving the socio-economic conditions of the state’s workforce.

MLA Abhishek Debroy, members of the State Advisory Board and senior officials of the Labour Department attended the meeting.

The board deliberated on recommendations to be submitted to the state government concerning the fixation and revision of minimum wages, workers’ entitlements and the implementation of existing labour laws and labour codes.

Addressing the meeting, Roy emphasised the board’s role in advising the government on labour-related issues, particularly wage policies, workers’ rights and welfare measures.

He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to safeguard workers’ interests, uphold their dignity and improve the living standards of labourers employed across different sectors.

The minister also highlighted the importance of ensuring that government policies and welfare schemes reached their intended beneficiaries so that eligible workers could access the benefits and protections available to them, officials said.

Participants discussed measures to promote a fair working environment, strengthen labour administration and improve the enforcement of labour laws to protect workers’ interests.

Debroy underlined the importance of periodic revision of minimum wages in view of workers’ needs and changing economic conditions. He also stressed the need for effective implementation of labour codes and welfare initiatives to improve the overall condition of the working population.

The meeting provided a platform for board members and government representatives to review labour-related concerns and exchange views on possible measures to address them.

The deliberations also highlighted the need to ensure that statutory protections and welfare benefits reached eligible workers across various sectors.

Officials said the recommendations emerging from the meeting would be submitted to the state government for consideration and could help guide future decisions on wage revision, labour welfare and workers’ rights.

The discussions further underscored the importance of regular consultations between the government and stakeholders to address issues related to wages, working conditions and social security.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on strengthening welfare measures for workers and ensuring the effective implementation of labour-related policies, officials added.
