Tripura is eyeing mango production, exhibition of various fruits in the state with buyers from all over the country June 27: Agriculture Minister

Agartala, June 14 (H.S.): On June 27, an exhibition of various fruits will be organized in Tripura with buyers from all over the country. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said this at an exhibition of different varieties of mangoes produced in Tripura at Nagichra Agricultural Research Center today. He added that Tripura is attracting attention in mango production. Commercial cultivation of different varieties of mangoes has started in Tripura. Farmers are already reaping the benefits.

On this day he said, mango tree is known as Kalpa tree. Mango is a delicious fruit, which is found in all countries of the Asian continent. Mango is also the national fruit of India. Mango is also called the king of fruits due to its popularity among people. Mangoes are rich in Vitamin-A and Vitamin-C. Alphonso mango is incomparable in appearance, smell and taste among the different varieties of mangoes around the country. Hence Alfonso is also called the King of Mangoes.

 

He claimed that in the fiscal year 2022-23, 21 million metric tons of mangoes have been produced across the country. Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of mangoes in the country, which is about 23% of the total production. A total of 10357 hectares of land has been cultivated in Tripura. Its average production is 5.09 MT per hectare. He said, commercial cultivation of different varieties of mangoes has already started in Tripura. Different varieties of mangoes are being cultivated in Nagichhara. He said that in Tripura, mangoes of Amrapali, Himsagar and Ambika species are cultivated.

On this day, he also said that various species of mangoes are being cultivated in the agricultural research center at Nagichhara. 13 varieties of Indian mango such as Ambica, Arunika, Amrapali, Himsagar etc. are being cultivated. Moreover, 22 foreign varieties of mango are being cultivated. Miyazaki, Haribhanga (Yellow Banana, Japanese All Time) Thai, Himsagar etc. Mangoes are being cultivated. So the Tripura government has decided to organize an exhibition of various fruits with buyers from all over the country on June 27. Basically, this exhibition is being organized to increase the demand in the domestic market for the fruits produced in Tripura.

 

On this day, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that an initiative has already been taken to give 15 lakh saplings to 1 lakh families under the Chief Minister’s Swanirbhar Parivar Yojana. The government has set a target of 2000 hectares of land for palm oil cultivation. This year, 1300 hectares have been targeted for mango, jackfruit, orange, pineapple and banana cultivation separately. There has been an increase of 295 hectares of land for coconut.

 

Besides, our traditional fruit cultivation will also be increased. We will distribute seedlings of such as jam, litchi, guava, cool, he said. According to him, an initiative has been taken by the department to distribute 2 lakh 95 thousand saplings in Urban Horticulture Scheme. Through this, coconut, mango, hybrid vegetable seedlings and flower seedlings will be distributed.
